Students create drawings of their choosing on the papers I have prepared with 2 lines across them. You may suggest themes like animals, monsters, people, cartoon characters, etc. They should draw their pictures as if the lines weren’t there and color them in with crayons, but near the end of class they will cut their picture apart on the lines, keep the piece labeled “1” and trade the other 2 pieces with students from other tables so that everyone has a piece labeled 1, 2, and 3, but only the 1 piece is theirs. After they have done this, the sub should go around and tape the pieces back together so that each student has one piece that they drew as well as 2 pieces from 2 different students. You can explain that this is a game that lots of “real” artists have played for hundreds of years. I recommend having the students do a thorough clean up while the sub is taping pieces together, as this step will take a few minutes.
